Disable Guest Account In Ubuntu or Mint

In this video I show you how to disable the guest account that is enabled by default in Ubuntu and some of its derivatives.  I tried to make it really clear in the video but it wasn’t clear enough, be absolutely sure that you do not leave the lightdm.conf file blank or just add the “allow-guest” line.  It needs to have all of the entries I list below or you will be left with no desktop after reboot.

Here’s the basic rundown:

  1. Press Alt + F2
  2. Enter password
  3. enter “gksu gedit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf”
  4. In the editor paste this:
    1. [SeatDefaults]
      user-session=ubuntu
      greeter-session=unity-greeter
      allow-guest=false
  5. Save and close.
  6. Reboot.
